Records, 1917-1980 (bulk, 1926-1939).

The records of the Jackson Laboratory are fragmentary in nature and divided into two series which document cutting edge research projects conducted by Du Pont scientists, primarily in the 1920s and 1930s. Under the direction of Fletcher B. Holmes and W. S. Calcott, the processes for producing many important products, including neoprene synthetic rubber, were perfected during this period.

Charles M. A. Stine was one of the leading research chemists employed by E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. (1907-1945). The Jackson Laboratory was established by E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company at its Deepwater, N.J., dye works in 1917. It was named for Oscar R. Jackson, a chemical engineer who had been superintendent of the Repauno dynamite works in the late 19th century.
